Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered Please check the list below for answers to the most commonly asked questions we receive.

How thick and strong is your concrete?

We specify five inches of concrete for driveways and four inches of concrete for patios, walkways and pool decks. The strength of the steel-reinforced concrete is 32MPa (4600 psi).

Will the concrete crack?
All concrete has the potential to crack. When necessary, we employ methods that go above and beyond accepted industry standards to minimize or control cracking.
Can concrete chips or cracks be repaired?
Yes. We are fully trained in all aspects of concrete repair. Speak to us if this issue arises.
Is the concrete slippery?
It doesn't have to be. Over the years, architectural concrete has developed a reputation of being slippery when wet or frozen. We use a non-slip additive in our sealer to greatly reduce, if not eliminate, slipperiness.
Will the concrete fade?
No. We use colour hardeners that are cast atop the concrete to greatly increase the surface strength, and ensure the colour(s) will last a lifetime.
What maintenance is required?
Periodically, everything needs maintenance, especially surfaces that are exposed to a cold climate. We recommend that you seal your decorative concrete every four to five years. Or give us a call, we would be happy to wash and seal it for you.
Will salt damage my concrete?
We try to discourage the use of salt to melt ice on new concrete surfaces. Sand is the best product to eliminate slip, but there are also various calcium-based de-icers readily available that are safe to use. While we promote safety against slipping first, when possible, avoid salt contact on any concrete that is less than one year old. We also recommend using a plastic snow shovel as metal shovels may scratch the sealer.
How long does a architectural concrete project take to build?
Not as long as you may think. In retaining our own core staff of workers, your job is never left unattended for any unexplained reasons. Duration can vary depending on the details involved, such as the addition of walls, steps or multiple levels, not to mention the weather, which is often a delaying factor. A prudent estimate for an average-size concrete project is approximately three weeks.
